Communicating Together Workshop

This 3-day workshop gives supportive personnel the opportunity to learn and incorporate interactive Hanen language facilitation strategies into their speech and language interventions with preschool children. It is suitable for CDAs, ECEs, Speech Assistants and other supportive personnel involved in speech and language intervention for preschool children.

Only available in Ontario, through Hanen’s Provincial Preschool Speech and Language Initiative, this workshop is led by Cathy Coppens and Lyn Braun, experienced clinicians. Like all Hanen Workshops, Communicating Together offers participants an interactive, hands-on learning experience.

This workshop takes place in two parts: one full day, plus 2 full days that are scheduled three to five weeks after the first day. This extended format gives participants an opportunity to practice the strategies they learn in the first workshop day. Following Day One and before Day Two, all participants have the opportunity to be videotaped interacting with a preschool child. The interactive language facilitation strategies identified on Day One of the workshop are applied during this interaction. Each participant has the opportunity to review and discuss his/her tape with a Hanen Certified SLP.

Workshop Objectives
Participants will:

	understand different adult communication styles and their effect on children’s communication
	learn a variety of language facilitation strategies that can be incorporated into individual and group therapy sessions
	have an opportunity to practice using the language facilitation strategies with children with language delays
	receive individualized feedback on videotaped interactions brought to the workshop

A Positive, Individualized Learning Experience
Workshop participants have a Hanen Certified SLP available to them as a resource when they are applying the information learned in the workshop. Each participant also has an opportunity to view and discuss their videotaped interactions with the Hanen SLP.
